This book is a case study of role conflict surrounding local official in the Idoma tribe of northern Nigeria. The author examines prvious research into role conflcit in Africa and elsewhere; the organisation of the pre-colonial Idoma society; administration during colonial period; the social backgrounds of the local Idoma officials since independence, and the means by which thy came to hold office.
