This paper is a study of the practice of facial marks in Idoma land and their significance. The study looked at four aspects of facial marks in Idoma land; identity, aesthetic, medicinal and spiritual (reincarnation).
Using oral interviews and literature reviews as basis for his research, the author came to the conclusion that colonization by Europeans has had a detrimental effect on the art and culture of facial marks in Idoma land. He also asserted that while the practice of facial marks is sadly on the decline in Idoma land, body marks influenced by western culture such as tattoos are on the rise.
